GZ Mosque Investor Refuses Trump’s Buy-Out Offer

by Stephan Tawney on September 9, 2010

The main Ground Zero mosque investor, who previously said that he is merely a businessman who would sell the property if the right offer came along, has declined an offer from real estate mogul Donald Trump to purchase the property.

Trump offered the investor, Hisham Elzanaty, more than $6 million — quite a sum considering the developer purchased the property for just $4.8 million. That buy-out offer included the original sale price, a year of lease rights, and an additional 25%.

But no deal:

Wolodymyr Starosolsky is a lawyer for the investor in the real estate partnership that controls the site. He says Trump’s offer is “just a cheap attempt to get publicity and get in the limelight.”

Trump has been open about the fact that he seeks to purchase the property because it would end the debate. Apparently the mosque developer isn’t motivated solely by business as he claimed.

They just want to boast of their “victory” from 9/11, 2001. That’s all it is. Why not take 6 million for a 4. something piece of land?
