Awesome: Russ Feingold Distances Himself From Party, Record

by Stephan Tawney on September 25, 2010

Two years ago Barack Obama carried Wisconsin by double-digits. Now the multi-term Russ Feingold, one of the most liberal members of the United States Senate, faces defeat in November. So what is he to do? Why, suddenly decide he’s no longer a proud member of his party, of course.

And so we have Feingold’s first television ad. Total mentions of the word “Democrat”? Zero. Total mentions of Obama’s name? Zero. Total mentions of government-run health care? Zero. Total mentions of the stimulus package and/or other major spending measures? Again, zero.

In fact, Feingold only mentions his supposed work on behalf of veterans and his opposition to automatic pay raises. The ad says the latter has earned him scorn in Congress, leaving him to eat his lunch alone.

Really? The legislation passed the Senate unanimously and the House by a margin of 402-15. My, how bold of him to agree with every one of his Senate colleagues and just about every member of the House! Truly an independent thinker.
