Union Boss Andy Stern Under Federal Investigation

by Stephan Tawney on September 28, 2010

Former SEIU boss Andy Stern, best known as of late for his repeated trips to the White House to lobby for union interests, is under federal investigation for corruption.

Two organized labor officials met with federal agents this summer to answer questions about Stern’s role in approving money to pay the salary of an SEIU leader in California who performed no work and a book contract that Stern landed in 2006, The Los Angeles Times reported today on its website.

Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the investigation.

Stern abruptly resigned from his position at the Service Employees International Union in April, only to be appointed to President Obama’s bipartisan deficit commission, where he currently sits.

Stern isn’t commenting. The FBI would neither confirm nor deny the reports.
