Canadian Ambassador Inserts Himself into American Politics

by Stephan Tawney on October 19, 2010

The Canadian ambassador to the United States has taken it upon himself to get involved in American domestic politics, attacking Sharron Angle over a statement she made regarding the northern border.

“What we know is that our northern border is where the terrorists came through. That’s the most porous border that we have,” she said. “We cannot allow terrorists, we cannot allow anyone to come across our border if we don’t know why they’re coming. So, we have to secure all of our borders and that’s what that was about, is border security.”

Doer wrote in response: “I can assure you that Canada takes border security very seriously and trust you will see fit to set the record straight.”

It’s a common misconception that the 9/11 hijackers entered from the northern border. Even Secretary Napolitano made that mistake. And that misconception should be corrected. But there are plenty of American sources who will correct the record. Believe you me, the media is more than happy to correct Sharron Angle.

It’s not a Canadian official’s place to insert himself into a U.S. Senate race. Canadians wouldn’t appreciate it if an American official inserted himself into a parliamentary election, we don’t appreciate Canadian officials inserting themselves into Senate races.

Butt out.
