Skipping Town: Obama to Leave Country After Election

by Stephan Tawney on October 20, 2010

Not for good, unfortunately. But he has conveniently scheduled a trip to Asia for right after the midterm election. Democrats are not happy.

“Unless we’re planning to hold the lame duck in India, it makes zero sense to take a 10-day overseas trip right after what could be a disastrous midterm election,” said one Democratic strategist, speaking on background so as not to anger White House officials. “It will demoralize Democrats and needlessly cede message and momentum to Republicans.”

Obama doesn’t want to be around to take questions or pressure. His personality won’t allow him to sit around in Washington after his policies have been rejected. So he needs to get away, put his mind into continuing the global apology tour in Asia. It would seem that the captain is abandoning his ship.
