NPR CEO Attacks Juan Williams’ Sanity

by Stephan Tawney on October 21, 2010

Did you hear the news? Recognizing that the 9/11 terrorists were Muslim is now considered insane. Or so we’re told by publicly-funded NPR’s CEO.

NPR CEO Vivian Schiller just released this statement:

“I spoke hastily and I apologize to Juan and others for my thoughtless remark.”

That follows, as you’ll see below, her comment earlier today that now-former NPR news analyst Juan Williams should have kept his feelings about Muslims between himself and “his psychiatrist or his publicist.”

Our original post:

Fired NPR news analyst Juan Williams should have kept his feeling about Muslims between himself and “his psychiatrist or his publicist,” the network’s CEO told an audience at the Atlanta Press Club earlier today.

The Associated Press adds that:

Schiller said Williams’ firing is not a reflection of his comments (on Fox News Channel) that he gets nervous when he sees people in Muslim garb on an airplane. She said she has no problem with people taking controversial positions, but that such opinions should not come from NPR reporters or news analysts. Williams, Schiller said, is a news analyst, not a commentator or columnist.

And, she said the firing came after “several cases” of Williams veering from journalistic ethics.

Bullcrap. There are very few people who display greater journalistic ethics than Juan Williams. He was fired for two reasons:

1) He dared to express apprehension at individuals dressed in Muslim garb boarding a plane. You can insult tea partiers, smear all white Christians, and label all Republicans as racist, while working at NPR. But don’t dare point out that the 9/11 attackers were Muslim. That won’t be tolerated.

2) He was contributing to a successful channel that doesn’t toe the leftist line, and in fact beats every leftist channel in the ratings. NPR was looking for any reason — any at all — to fire Williams.

Furthermore, it appears that questioning someone’s sanity for disagreeing with you is acceptable at the network. But Williams gets fired for revealing what most Americans believe.

Certainly, it is a fact that there are millions of muslims who would like to see Israel and the USA destroyed. Many of these are prepared to do violence to make that wish come true. However, they are not the most dangerous threat to judeo-christian civilization. In the long view, I am more afraid of the damage left-wing loons can do. The zealous wickedness of the amoral and unjust left is a relentless disease eating away at the very foundations of our society. This is a far greater danger than explosives. The Juan Williams case is just another manifestation of the disease.

What can we do to stop this insanity. I do not frequently agree with Juan Williams, but I have always respected him, much more than O’Reilly, Hannity, ect…. His positions are well thought out and his graciousness is astounding. Just not liberal enough or black enough for Vivian Schiller, the liberal comandant, who knows best…..
