House Democrat: Military Service Isn’t Public Service

by Stephan Tawney on October 22, 2010

Most Americans would agree that serving 24 years in the United States military qualifies as serving one’s country. But apparently Representative Jim Moran (D-VA) disagrees. Moran told an audience that Colonel Patrick Murphy, 24-year veteran of the United States Army, has no record of public service.

Actually, Moran’s remarks don’t stop there. He sneers at Murphy’s service, saying the colonel took a paycheck for 24 years. This from a man who has sat in Congress for several decades, collecting checks far higher than the man who actually fought for his country ever did.

This is absurd. Only this year, when House Democrats are increasingly desperate, does the accusation that military service doesn’t mean public service arise. You can help Patrick Murphy here.
