Democratic Pollster: Republicans Likely to Win Wisconsin Senate, Governor Races

by Stephan Tawney on October 28, 2010

Earlier there was talk of Russ Feingold (D) catching up to Republican challenger Ron Johnson in the United States Senate race. If that was indeed happening, it appears to have been nothing more than a temporary blip. Johnson is back up by 9 points and Feingold is back to looking for a new job.

Oh, we’re also likely to win the gubernatorial race in Wisconsin. Scott Walker, the Republican, holds an identical 9-point lead over Tom Barrett, his Democratic opponent.

The governor’s mansion is currently occupied by Jim Doyle, a Democrat. So this would get Republicans one state closer to controlling the majority of governors’ mansions — a goal of the Republican Governor’s Association this year.

As for the president’s approval rating in the Badger State, it’s abysmal. Just 37% of voters approve of the job he’s doing while 54% disapprove. Only 70% of Wisconsinites who supported Obama in 2008 approval of his job performance.

The current governor of the state isn’t doing any better. Just 27% of voters approve of Doyle, while 62% disapprove.
