What Now for Nancy Pelosi?

by Stephan Tawney on November 3, 2010

With Republicans back in control in the U.S. House of Representatives, current Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has a decision to make: Does she retire from Democratic leadership or stay on as minority leader?

Honestly, it’s difficult to read her next step. She may face a challenge from other top Democrats angry over their loss, or the smaller but further left caucus could unite behind her and keep her in the lead.

Of course, that assumes Pelosi actually wants to remain in a leadership role. Or in the House of Representatives at all. She’ll go from being the most powerful woman in the country, complete with the accompanying perks of the office, to being minority leader. That’s quite a fall from power.

Update: Just as I hit “publish”, FOX News says Pelosi wouldn’t comment on her future role in the House. At least not today.

  1. Billies Says:

Pelosi is the most hated woman in America, The Wicked Witch of the West. Democrats losing congress was as much her doing as obama or anyone else. She is delusional to think she would do anything between now and 2012 except put MORE Democrats out of work. She is as tone-deaf as Obama and simply refuse to accept it was THEIR doing that ushered in 61 new Republican congressmen and a massive take-over of the House. Good Republican challengers will win by merely saying their opponent is endorsed by Pelosi. Of course she wants to head the minority…her ego will not accept anything less. And Democrats, famous for shooting off all their toes, will probably elect her.
