Report: Pelosi Considering Run for Democratic Leadership

by Stephan Tawney on November 4, 2010

So says ABC News, citing anonymous Democratic sources.

I’m honestly not surprised. Like I said earlier, she’ll probably have the votes to win the leadership post. Heath Shuler (D-NC) and his conservative Democratic friends can threaten all they want, but there’s very few of them left. They were decimated on Tuesday.

Left in power is a smaller but more radically left-wing caucus — a caucus that will likely have little problem keeping in its leadership the radically left-wing former speaker from San Francisco. She’s not as repulsive to them as she is to most of the country.

If any serious challenge comes it will come from the same ideological position or even further left. I’d say Steny Hoyer (D-MD) is a good candidate but he’s apparently already assured Pelosi that he’ll have her back.
