House Democrat: Florida Governor-elect Should Be “Shot”

by Stephan Tawney on November 9, 2010

Congressman Paul Kanjorski (D-PA) has called for the murder of Florida Governor-elect Rick Scott (R). Actually, he called for the murder prior to the election and the report was lost in the shuffle, so he called for the murder of then-Republican nominee Rick Scott.

“That Scott down there that’s running for governor of Florida,” Mr. Kanjorski said. “Instead of running for governor of Florida, they ought to have him [sic] and shoot him. Put him against the wall and shoot him. He stole billions of dollars from the United States government and he’s running for governor of Florida. He’s a millionaire and a billionaire. He’s no hero. He’s a damn crook. It’s just we don’t prosecute big crooks.”

So is Kanjorski advocating for vigilante justice? That’s what it sounds like. He says we don’t prosecute crooks (actually, the case was pursued and settled) and so Scott should be put up against a wall and shot. It certainly sounds to me like the prominent House Democrat is calling for vigilante justice.

It should be noted that Kanjorski’s own political career was recently murdered. He lost his re-election bid to conservative Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta.
