I Don’t Stand with Palestine, and Neither Do Most Americans

In giving another $150 million of taxpayer funds to the anti-American Palestinian government, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said:

This figure underscores the strong determination of the American people and this administration to stand with our Palestinian friends even during difficult economic times,” declared US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in announcing the aid, which was taken from the $200 million the Obama administration plans to allocate to the PA in 2011.

Yeah, no.

First of all, the Obama Administration decided to give $150 million of taxpayer funds to Palestine. Clinton makes it seem like voters approved the move as part of a ballot initiative last Tuesday. If you were to ask most Americans if they could find a better use for $150 million, I’m betting most could.

More importantly though, I don’t stand with Palestine. Most Americans don’t stand with Palestine. They stand with Israel, which is why being painted as anti-Israeli is a political danger. It’s why support for Israel is one of the few issues upon which you can reach a bipartisan consensus in Congress.

Unless Clinton is saying you can stand with both Israel and Palestine in this dispute. That’s sounds nice and makes for a good speech, but it’s simply not true. As long as Palestine refuses to recognize the right of Israel to exist and allows its territory to be used by terrorists who kill Israelis, it’s one side or the other.
