He says it’s due to a lack of time in the lame duck session. I guess that means he doesn’t have time for amnesty for illegals or card-check either, right? Or do we have time for horrid and unpopular left-wing legislation but not for a bipartisan amendment that would place a moratorium on earmarks?
Following the Democrats’ luncheon, Reid rejected a plan by Sens. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) and Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) to try to attach the ban to a food safety bill.
“The legislation that we’re dealing with, we, as you know, with the limited time we have, if I’m able to get cloture on any of the issues that I bring up, it’s not going to be open amendment process, because we simply don’t have time for that,” Reid said.
The Democratic leader did, however, pledge to find some time in the unspecified future to deal with the problem of earmarks.
Like I said, I’m sure Reid will find plenty of time for far-left legislation like card-check and amnesty (or at least amnesty-lite). But a moratorium on earmarks? No time to consider that amendment. They’ve got too much to do!
