Senate Republicans Vote to Ban Earmarks

by Stephan Tawney on November 16, 2010

They’ve done it. Senate Republicans have voted to ban earmarks by their caucus in the 112th Congress. The ban was accompanied by a measure calling for a Balanced Budget Amendment. It’s good to see Republicans getting serious about fiscal responsibility.

Update: In stark contrast, almost every Senate Democrat opposes passing a similar measure for their caucus. There are only two announced supporters of a moratorium on the left: Claire McCaskill (D-MO) and Mark Udall (D-CO). McCaskill is up for re-election in 2012 and faces a tough campaign.
