TSA: Thousands Sexually Assaulting

by Stephan Tawney on November 16, 2010

We’ve reached the point of absurdity.

In order to avoid profiling 26-year-old males from Yemen, TSA agents will now sexually assault your screaming 3-year-old daughter from Minnesota. But it’s not sexual assault, we’re told, because it’s being conducted by trained professionals (read: former burger-flippers who now wear badges).

Except it’s still sexual assault. Just because a unionized government employee does it doesn’t make it right.

Look, I’m a defense hawk and I’ve stood by previous controversial government actions in the name of security. I understand that we have to deal the cards we’re dealt and sometimes that means doing things that aren’t pleasant. I’ve stood by controversial stances on waterboarding, Gitmo, and wiretaps.

But now they’ve gone too far.

Let’s get this out in the open right now: The biggest threat to the United States presently comes from Middle Eastern Muslims. We are far, far, far more likely to come under attack from young men born in Yemen than from a state military or white Tea Partiers. That may not be politically correct but it’s true.

But see, we can’t profile passengers. Why? Because that’s wrong. We’re a nation of tolerant people who don’t discriminate based on the color of your skin, your religion, or place of origin. I mean, just because a 26-year-old sweating man recently visited both Yemen and Pakistan doesn’t mean he’s a terrorist, right? Right. So we can’t profile. That would be wrong.

What evidently is right is having barely-trained federal employees on a collective power trip grope our toddlers. That’s just fine, and it’s totally not sexual assault because the rent-a-cop who previously worked in the airport gift shop is doing it rather than some crazy relative or random stranger.

So let’s review. Profiling suspicious individuals based on place of origin and cultural background? Totally wrong. We might offend someone and we can’t do that. Having federal employees arbitrarily decide to sexually assault our 3-year-olds? That’s just fine. Because security is our top priority.

We’re groping 3-year-old children from Minnesota in order to avoid offending 26-year-old men from Yemen. That’s what airline security amounts to these days.

Total absurdity… and now, apparently, women wearing hijab can only be searched above the neck… what’s going on here?
