Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) thinks the Federal Communications Commission should be able to yank both FOX News and MSNBC off the airwaves. Why? He says the absence of their critiques, investigations, and commentary would make it easier for Washington elites to run the country.
“There’s a little bug inside of me which wants to get the FCC to say to FOX and to MSNBC: ‘Out. Off. End. Goodbye.’ It would be a big favor to political discourse; our ability to do our work here in Congress, and to the American people, to be able to talk with each other and have some faith in their government and more importantly, in their future.”
Next up, Senator Rockefeller explains how that wouldn’t directly conflict with the First Amendment.
*Silence*
No? Nothing. Oh, okay. So he hasn’t quite found a way around the Bill of Rights yet. But I’m sure he’s working on that. We’ll check back with the president of the Joseph Stalin fan club later.
I love that part, “It would be a big favor to political discourse; our ability to do our work here in Congress, and to the American people, to be able to talk with each other and have some faith in their government and more importantly, in their future.”
Basically he’s saying the lack of opinion and pressure would leave Americans in the dark about the true state of their government, and it would therefore allow the Washington elites to rule with less resistance. He’s actually admitting that he’d like to silence vocal opposition to Washington’s policies.
Ever wonder why the Founding Fathers felt compelled to restrict the government’s power and ensure the rights of the people? Just look at Senator Rockefeller’s comments. People like Rockefeller are the reason why the Founding Fathers left us with the Bill of Rights.
