The poster child for the electric car has just received its official EPA sticker, merely days after Nissan’s Leaf received its own. The Volt has been found to have a 93MPG equivalent when running purely on batteries, while one could expect an average of 37MPG when using petrol alone.
In fairness, we’re talking about 93MPG on battery power. The only problem is, the EPA says you’ll only go about 35 miles on a full charge. So unless you drive very short distances and find outlets everywhere you go, you’ll be dealing with the anticlimactic 37 mpg.
Also important to note: GM originally touted a 230 mpg rating for the Volt. Neither 93 nor 37 mpg is anywhere near the claimed 230 mpg.
