This time relating to how he funded his legal defense for the first series of ethics charges.
Apparently the Harlem Congressman used $400,000 from his political action committee (PAC) to pay for his defense. That’s a problem because lawmakers can only use funds from their individual campaign funds or newly-established legal defense funds. They’re not allowed to tap into PAC cash.
And there’s more! The National Legal and Policy Center is expected to file a complaint this week alleging that Rangel’s PAC money included about $195,000 from lobbyists with business before the powerful House Ways and Means Committee he controlled.
Most open, honest, and ethical Congress evuh.
