Apparently Collins thought there was a deal between herself and Democrats to vote for “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” repeal with some kind of condition. Then Harry Reid took to the floor and screwed her over, announcing there was no deal and that he would bring the legislation up for a vote immediately — her discussions be damned.
So how did Collins react? By voting “aye” for the legislation after a temporary expression of disappointment.
Reid screwed over Collins and Collins responded by voting his way.
That’s the problem with squishy Republicans. It’s not that they hold certain stances that disagree with conservatives. It’s that they don’t even stand firm on their own supposed convictions. They get screwed over by the other side and say, “Thank you. Could I have some more?”
They keep running towards the football, no matter how many times Lucy pulls the ball away. And like Charlie Brown, they expect a different outcome each and every time. They think they’re really going to be respected this time — that the other side is really going to be fair this time.
