Charlie Browns Runs for the Football Again

by Stephan Tawney on December 12, 2010

From an Associated Press story on the upcoming START treaty vote. Charlie Brown is running towards the football again, hoping Lucy really won’t pull it away this time.

Axelrod says ratification will help the U.S. in terms of cooperation with Russia on issues such as Iran and North Korea.

Didn’t we hear that excuse when we agreed to abandon the European missile shield, too? It was going to help us win over the support of Russia when it came to dealing with Iran. Guess what? Russia still doesn’t give a crap about what we think about its assistance to Iran. And Iran is still pursuing nuclear weapons.

It’s said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different outcome. It seems that the White House and its allies on Capitol Hill are going to kiss Russia’s ass again, hoping this time the country will actually return the favor. Unlike last time. And the time before that. And the time before that. And the time….you get the point.
