Did you see this story?
An insane man down in Florida got up in a school board meeting, spray painted a “V for Vendetta” symbol on the wall, and then pulled a gun. He ordered everyone out of the room expect board members. After talking with them for several minutes, he fired two shots at the board president — both of which missed. A security guard then shot the man, who proceeded to kill himself.
Tragic, yes, but at least the only person to be injured was the gunman, Clay Duke.
But don’t expect his motivation to be highlighted, analyzed, and warned about in the mainstream media. Why? Because this guy was hardly a Tea Party member.
First of all, his complaint was based upon the fact that his wife was supposedly recently fired from her government job. He says it resulted from the school board “gutting” the school system. Then he talked about how the school board president opposed tax increases to pay for the system.
Second, Gawker has found his Facebook page. Duke writes about the evil “rich” who have apparently enslaved him while building up their own wealth. He demonizes “Rich Republicans” and “Rich Democrats”, which he says are the same.
On that same page, he links to conspiracy theory websites, a Wikileaks mirror, and left-wing media watchdog Media Matters. He also quotes billionaire Warren Buffet as an example of evil rich people.
He an anti-wealth, pro-redistribution, liberal website-linking whacko, angry over the fact his wife was fired from a government job by a guy who opposes tax increases.
Does this mean all leftists are violent individuals who are also responsible for Duke’s actions? Of course not. But the media loves to find a violent whacko whose ideology can be seen as right-leaning and then blame all right-wingers for radicalizing him. We’re told it’s conservative rhetoric that has become dangerous, driving people into violence.
Will the same be said of Duke? That organizations like Wikileaks and Media Matters drove him to violence? That radical left-wing rhetoric, like that from Bernie Sanders, is responsible for the shooting incident? I doubt it.
