Senate Votes to Proceed to Defense-Limiting START Treaty

by Stephan Tawney on December 15, 2010

The United States Senate has voted 66-32 to proceed to debate on the START treaty, which limits the United States’ ability to defend itself. Supporters of the treaty hope against historical evidence that surrendering our nation’s interests will convince Russia to help us stop Iran’s nuclear program — the same nuclear program Russia has helped build.

Update: Harry Reid says he wants a vote on the disastrous treaty tomorrow morning. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), never hesitant to surrender to Democrats, now says a full reading of the treaty isn’t necessary.
