Ouch: Obama Not Invited to British Royal Wedding

by Stephan Tawney on December 17, 2010

The official position is that it’s not an official state wedding so no reason to invite heads of state. And yet “a handful of heads of state” are invited, including French President Nicolas Sarkozy and First Lady Carla Bruni. In other words, some heads of state are invited — but not Obama. The public excuse seems to be crap.

Another point from the Daily Mail: When Princess Diana and Prince Charles were married in 1981, President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan were invited. The president couldn’t attend because he was recovering from the assassination attempt, but his wife was there.

William has apparently decided to pack the pews with ordinary citizens who worked for his charities. Which sound nice and all, but again: He found room for the president of France and other heads of state. He couldn’t find two seats for the president and First Lady. Or he didn’t want to.

THANK GOODNESS. I am very happy to hear that Obama and his family are not invited to the royal wedding. I do not even want to think about what the Obama’s would give as a gift. Since the Queen was given an ipod with Obama’s speeches on it, I would be worried that he would gift them with plates or glasses featuring his image. I wish Kate and William a very long and happy marriage. I am sure their wedding will be beautiful.

  2. Larry Sheldon Says:

“Heads of State” being a technical term that I suppose applies although I am pretty sure the Regent is named George.

But more to the point–even in diplomatic venues, the people invited to weddings are friends, pose as friends, are desired as friends, or have the power to enforce treatment as friends.

    Zero = 0

  3. KingEdward Says:

This is the payback for the Obamas giving PM Brown a package of DVDs as a state gift in March 2009 and then coming to Buckingham Palace and giving the Queen of England an ipod as a gift in April 2009.

    Major Fail.

  4. Jan Mitch Says:

I’m glad the Obama’s wern’t invited. President Obama has insulted England at every possible opportunity. On almost his first day in office he sent BACK a bust of W. Churchill. He gave them those awful in your face ipods and did not grant the customary joint press conference OK, said the Royal family you have a colonial sized chip on your narrow sholders about England. We get it.

What? Didn’t he realize that the Royal Family knows a thing or two about being snotty?

Obama and his disbarred lawyer wife are quite an embarrassment these days. Maybe they’re afraid that Michelle will show up to the wedding in her Grand Canyon “shorts outfit”…but with a hat, of course.

  6. A. Henry Says:

I think it is great that the Royal Family has opted not to invite obama and his wife. Now that shows class which the obama’s have none. He has turned against all of our allies including Isreal. Pay back is hell.

  7. Screw the Tea Drinkers Says:

Forget those bad teeth having snobs! What do we care what these fake “royals” do anyway! I’m so tired of hearing about these stuck up snooty people! After Diana died I thought this would be over but we still are talking about them! Remember people If they had their way we would all be having tea time! Please get a life! As bad as the Us is we still run things so Obama should tell them to kick rocks!

  8. Michael Says:

I Love the fact that the Royals have decided to stick it up the Obamas recliner……yeah, applauds for the Queen. While I have never been a fan, right now I can bow to her a million times just like Obama bows to the Sultans in Saudi Arabia……….this man is an insult and an embarassment to our nation.

  9. hunse Says:

Maybe if Barrack and the first lady do not attend the wedding, they can send an official Obama Chia Pet for a gift.

  10. Hartley Says:

Hooray for the Royals. I am not a fan but they know idiots when they see them and the Obamas can’t seem to do anything with good taste. When Obama sent back Churchill’s bust it was a calculated insult. Now it’s the Royals turn. Churchill was our staunch ally in WWII and beyond and he had no business sending back something that was a gift to the American people. The first family has no business laying claim to things that belong to the rest of us. I applaud the Brits as I never have before and hope they stick to their guns. Invite every other head of state. STick it to ‘em baby.

  11. Perry Says:

I am sick and tired of hearing about the Royals. Their only claim to fame is being born into an overbred family of parasites.
I believe Michelle is very natural and warm in her approach to people. The Queen is a cold snob who has her job as an accident of birth.
I say that we didn’t need them then and we sure don’t need them now. And all of you who are applauding them…they wouldn’t invite you to the wedding either.

  12. Mac Says:

royal weddings are from human beings only. you could just imagine the horror of loose monkeys jumping around throwing their shit amd swinging off the chandiliers

  13. Teresa Says:

Matt you should not speak of your family in that manner…

  14. Fritz Says:

Mac, You are truly a moronic pig! (no offense to real swine)

  15. James Says:

Obama doesn’t deserve to be invited. He does not represent our country in a manner that we our proud of. He embarrasses us everytime he goes abroad.

  16. Jamie Says:

Paybacks a bitch eh Obamas? Did you think your tacky classless behaviour towards one of your biggest ally countries would go unnoticed?

The hilarity is, even the fat old good-for-nothing King of Tonga was invited buahahahaha.

  17. Chatty Kathy Says:

You know darned well that had they been invited and attended you all would be screaming about how he wasn’t attending to the country’s issues. What’s Obama doing today? Oh yeah, surveying the devastation wrought by those terrible tornadoes, as he should.

  18. Stephan Tawney Says:

You make it sound like it was the responsible thing to survey damage rather than attend. One problem: There was absolutely no foresight that the storms would occur.

If not for that act of God, Obama would be playing golf or attending fundraisers this weekend.

And very, very few of us would have criticized him for attending a royal wedding. We criticize him for ruining our special relationship with Britain. Attending would be a good step towards somewhat repairing it.

  19. Mightynewmommy Says:

I’m glad the Obamas weren’t given a chance to embarrass the American people yet again.
