UK Red Cross Bans Christmas to Avoid Offending Muslims

by Stephan Tawney on December 17, 2010

So stupid even British Muslims are mystified at the move. The United Kingdom has apparently become so politically correct in order to avoid offending Muslims that Muslims are now offended by the implication that they’re so easily offended. In related news, my head is spinning.

Christmas has been banned by the Red Cross from its 430 fund-raising shops.

Staff have been ordered to take down decorations and to remove any other signs of the Christian festival because they could offend Moslems.

The charity’s politically-correct move triggered an avalanche of criticism and mockery last night – from Christians and Moslems.

Christmas cards? Not allowed. They must be holiday cards. A nativity scene in a local shop’s window? Take it away. It might offend someone. Also not allowed: Having a Christmas tree or even talking with customers about the holiday.

The Red Cross confirms the ban on Christmas, saying snow and tinsel are permitted but nothing that might identify with the Christian holiday.

This isn’t the first politically correct move for the Red Cross. In fact, a few years ago the organization considered changing its symbol — the cross — to one that appears more secular. The organization backed down after universal mocking.
