Barring significant tax increases, federal spending on entitlement programs will consume all tax revenue by 2052. No money will be left over to fund legitimate constitutional functions like law and order and national defense.
While many leftists will say the solution is to raise taxes, that would inhibit economic activity and further limit the ability of Americans to make their own choices and pursue the American dream.
The only real, viable solution is to reform entitlements. But “viable” doesn’t mean “easy” in this case. The three biggest entitlements are Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. And while many talk about reform, few are willing to concede their portion of the federal pork pie.
Unless Americans get serious about reform, and until they’re ready to accept that things will really need to change, we’re headed towards a fiscal disaster the likes of which America has never seen and with which it has never dealt.
