Today in the House: Constitution to be Read Aloud

by Stephan Tawney on January 6, 2011

For the first time in history, members of the United States House of Representatives will take turns reading the full text of the current form of the United States Constitution aloud today. The full reading is expected to take about two hours.

It has been reported that the House will also consider a resolution to cut budgets for members by 5%, saving tens of millions of dollars per year. That hardly dents the national deficit, but it’s a symbolic gesture of Congress’ move towards fiscal responsibility.

A nice gesture, but it would be even nicer if the Congress decided to actually abide by the Constitution during their tenure.
