A report by the Government Accountability Office found numerous instances in which federal employees used government charge cards to purchase inappropriate items — including condoms, vacations, and football tickets.

Amongst the items purchased by federal employees using the cards:

  • Condoms
  • “Girls Gone Wild” videos
  • A one-week vacation
  • Season NFL tickets
  • A $600 trip to a Texas gentleman’s club
  • $3,700 of jewelery at one store alone
  • $400 for a massage
  • $450 for a single tatt00
  • $13,000 steak dinner
  • Erotica products

The abuses were originally revealed during a GAO training program last August, contained within a Power Point presentation entitled “Purchase Cards — Audits and Investigations”.

The budget for federal employee charge cards stood at about $19 billion in 2009.
