A report by the Government Accountability Office found numerous instances in which federal employees used government charge cards to purchase inappropriate items — including condoms, vacations, and football tickets.
Amongst the items purchased by federal employees using the cards:
- Condoms
- “Girls Gone Wild” videos
- A one-week vacation
- Season NFL tickets
- A $600 trip to a Texas gentleman’s club
- $3,700 of jewelery at one store alone
- $400 for a massage
- $450 for a single tatt00
- $13,000 steak dinner
- Erotica products
The abuses were originally revealed during a GAO training program last August, contained within a Power Point presentation entitled “Purchase Cards — Audits and Investigations”.
The budget for federal employee charge cards stood at about $19 billion in 2009.
