New WH Press Secretary’s First Job: Winning Over the Media…Again

by Stephan Tawney on January 29, 2011

Basically his job is to return the media’s love affair with Obama to 2008 levels. You know, whitewashing any news or revelation that makes Obama look bad. Acting as attack dog for the Obama campaign. Basically, making the media the communications office of the Obama team…again.

And as Doug Powers says, that shouldn’t be too hard to accomplish.

First of all, the media hasn’t strayed too far from that position. They still work hard to sweep any bad news under the rug, while they make even the most meaningless gesture seem like the 21st century’s Emancipation Proclamation. So the trip back to “totally in the tank” is a short one.

Second, Jay Carney — the new press secretary — is the former Washington bureau chief for Time. And his wife is the senior national correspondent for ABC’s Good Morning America. So he maintains close ties with his fellow left-wingers in the “mainstream” media. Should be easy to schmooze them over.
