WASHINGTON D.C. (BNO NEWS) -- United States President Barack Obama on Wednesday said that his administration is preparing a full range of options to respond to the Libya's crisis.

Obama added that these options include actions that will coordinate with allies and partners as well as through multilateral institutions as the situation in Libya is a concern for the international community.

"The suffering and bloodshed is outrageous and it is unacceptable. So are threats and orders to shoot peaceful protesters and further punish the people of Libya. These actions violate international norms and every standard of common decency. This violence must stop," President Obama said.

In addition, Obama asked Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to travel to Geneva next Monday to participate in a session of the Human Rights Council along a number of foreign ministers.

Clinton will hold consultations with her counterparts on events throughout Libya in order to ensure that the U.S. and the international community speak with one voice to the government and the people of Libya.

President Obama remarked that the events taking place in Libya is being driven by the people of the region and does not represent the work of the United States or any foreign power as former Cuban leader Fidel Castro said this week.

"The United States also strongly supports the universal rights of the Libyan people. That includes the rights of peaceful assembly, free speech, and the ability of the Libyan people to determine their own destiny. These are human rights and they cannot be denied through violence or suppression," added Obama.

Obama said that the U.S. priority is to protect American citizens in Libya. Furthermore, Obama supported the message of the U.N. Security Council condemning the violence in Libya.

"Throughout this time of transition, the United States will continue to stand up for freedom, stand up for justice, and stand up for the dignity of all people."
