SEOUL (BNO NEWS) -- Police in South Korea have arrested a 20-year-old American soldier on charges of breaking into a home and attempting to rape an elderly woman, local media reported on Sunday.

The unidentified 20-year-old American soldier is being held at a police station in Dongducheon, a city about 70 kilometers (43 miles) north of the capital Seoul, after a local court issued an arrest warrant for him.

According to the Yonhap news agency, the 20-year-old soldier broke into the home of a 70-year-old man on Saturday morning and attempted to rape his 64-year-old wife. Further details were not immediately released.

United States Forces Korea did not immediately comment on the case.
