TEHRAN (BNO NEWS) -- Iran on Thursday rejected claims by a Kuwaiti official about the alleged operation of an Iranian spy cell in the Gulf emirate, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.

??On Tuesday, according to media reports, Kuwait sentenced two Iranians and a Kuwaiti citizen to death for being part of an Iranian spy cell. Kuwaiti officials have not made an official statement, but Kuwait's foreign minister said on Thursday that a number of Iranian diplomats would be expelled for their involvement in a spy ring.

But according to a statement released by the Iranian Foreign Ministry's Information and Press Bureau, a source said the allegations leveled by a Kuwaiti judiciary official are "totally unfounded". The source labeled the act as an "irresponsible move".

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast previously dismissed media reports on the operation of an Iranian spy network in Kuwait as "false" and "baseless".

In May 2010, Kuwaiti media outlets alleged that security officials had arrested a team of spies with links to Iran. Iran's foreign ministry also responded to the allegation and denied Iran's involvement.??
