SANAA, YEMEN (BNO NEWS) -- Yemeni security forces killed an al-Qaida member in Aden province, the state-run Saba news agency reported Friday.
The agency said that Waleed Abdulatif al-Kina'ei, "one of the most dangerous elements of al-Qaida", was killed during clashes with police after he shot at the security men. al-Kina'ei along with a group allegedly committed terrorist and sabotage acts targeting security men in Aden on Thursday.
Meanwhile, a local police official in Abyan's provincial capital city of Zinjibar told Xinhua news agency that militants of al-Qaida wing carried out an attack earlier Friday on a security checkpoint, killing two policemen and a passerby. Another policeman and a passerby were also wounded in the attack.
Al-Qaida attacks against the army and the security forces have increased in Yemen's south and east provinces since the rise of protests demanding President Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down. The three-month-long anti-government protests have undermined the security and stability of the country.
