Suicide bomber hits Governor’s palace in northern Afghanistan, casualties reported

TALOQAN, AFGHANISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- A suicide bomber hit a governor's house in northern Afghanistan on Saturday afternoon, Afghan officials said, causing an unknown number of casualties.

The attack took place at the Governor's Palace in Taloqan, the capital of Takhar province. Witnesses reported seeing smoke coming from the building and said there were a number of fatalities.

"We are aware of reports that there has been a suicide attack at the Governor's Palace in Taloqan, Takhar Province this afternoon," a spokesperson for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said. "Initial reports indicate there have been a number of ISAF and [Afghan National Security Forces] casualties. We will release more information as we receive it."
