Several days after he says a hacker illegally accessed his Facebook and related accounts, Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-NY) has yet to contact law enforcement. Hacking a network and impersonating a federal official are both serious crimes punishable by prison time.
The “hacker” posted a lewd image to Weiner’s Twitter account, directed towards a progressive activist in Seattle. The activist was one of the few people Weiner was following, she had previously referred to him as her “boyfriend”, and Weiner had inexplicably mentioned the time of his television appearance for those in Seattle earlier on in the evening.
Despite mounting evidence to the contrary, Weiner maintains that it was a hacking incident rather than one in which he accidentally dispatched a personal picture to his public timeline.
Why hasn’t Weiner contacted Capitol Hill police or federal authorities yet? No one knows. After all, we’re talking felony criminal acts here. Surely the person responsible should be found and punished. And yet…nothing from Weiner. Gee, I wonder why…
