The House of Representatives has overwhelmingly rejected legislation that would have hiked the debt ceiling by $2.4 trillion. The vote was 318 against, 97 in favor. All 97 votes came from Democrats, though an equal number voted against.
The legislation was a “clean” bill. In other words, there were no entitlement reform provisions, no spending cuts, and no tax reform. It was a clean hike, just as President Obama wanted. Congress doesn’t seem to care what he wants. Good.
