ISLAMABAD (BNO NEWS) -- At least twelve policemen were killed on Saturday when suspected militants stormed a police station in northwestern Pakistan, TV channel Dunya reported.
According to police, a group of militants wearing suicide jackets stormed the police station located in Tehsil Kolachi area of Dera Ismail Khan, taking 25 police personnel hostage. The Army and other security forces rounded up the police station and engaged in a shootout with the suspected militants.
At least two of the militants reportedly blew themselves up in two suicide bombings. Between seven and 20 attackers, some armed with grenades and guns were involved, according to local officials.
Three bombs also exploded when an armored police vehicle entered the premises of the police station.
An investigation is underway.
On June 11, at least 37 people were killed and more than 100 others were injured when two powerful explosions ripped through a supermarket in Peshawar.
