Report: Obama Records Campaign Video in the White House

by Stephan Tawney on June 28, 2011

The evidence is compelling. Check out the two pictures, one from the campaign ad and one from his weekly address, which was verifiably filmed in the White House.

Same chair. Same walls. Same table. Even the same lamp. Either it was filmed in the White House, or the Obama campaign went to great extent recreating the scene to appear as if it was filmed there.

In the video, Obama’s promoting a raffle for his campaign. Donate $5 to his reelection campaign and you could win a dinner with Obama and Joe Biden. In a new video, Obama announced that Biden would attend.

One problem: Using federal property to campaign is a violation of federal campaign finance laws. Filming a fundraising video for your campaign at the White House certainly qualifies as using federal property to campaign.

Not that Obama will be held to account for the likely violation. If anything, someone in the press corps will ask about it, Carney will dodge the question, and the matter will be dropped. If we’re really lucky, the reporter might reiterate the question before finally dropping the matter.

This is Barack Obama here, remember. The media’s boyfriend. There are more than a few reporters hoping to work in his administration later on.

Even most of those who aren’t are still pulling for him in 2012. There’s no way in hell they’ll tarnish his made-up transparency and ethics record by pointing to his blatant violations of campaign finance law.
