BOGOTA (BNO NEWS) -- Eight children were killed and ten others were injured on Wednesday when their school bus fell off a cliff in southwestern Colombia, El Colombiano newspaper reported.

According to police sources, the vehicle rolled about 300 meters as it approached the town of La Cruz in Nariño province. The students, who live in rural areas, were heading to a school in the municipality for an outing.

The 10 injured students, who were rescued by police and firefighters, were taken to hospitals in the region.
