Huntsman Already Lending Himself Millions for Campaign

by Scott Gibbons on June 30, 2011

Former Obama Administration employee and current Republican candidate Jon Huntsman, the media’s squishy darling candidate, is already lending his campaign millions of dollars to continue functioning.

(CNN)-After pledging that he wouldn’t use his own wealth to support a bid for the presidency, former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman has dipped almost $2 million deep into his own pockets after all.

In fact, more than half of everything he has raised thus far has come from his own bank accounts.

Why? Because Huntsman is a product of the media. He has no grassroots support. The media was responsible for the buzz around his potential candidacy. The media wants him to be the Republican candidate (because he’s squishy and will lose). And the media is the main driving force of support behind his candidacy.

But the media can’t fill his coffers. Not that they would if they could. They want him to be the candidate because he’ll lose to their boyfriend, but they’re not willing to actually hand over money he could use to help his general election campaign (should there be one).

Which is why you hear lots of buzz about Huntsman but he struggles to raise money. It’s easy to have buzz. To actually get people to give you their money is a whole different ballgame. The media generates buzz. Actual supporters generate cash. He has plenty of the former, not so many of the latter.
