MSNBC Host Tries, Fails to Embarrass House Republican

by Stephan Tawney on July 20, 2011

It’s Contessa Brewer engaging in MSNBC’s favorite pastime: Having Republicans on so some liberal can talk down to and embarrass the guy before a liberal audience.

Except she fails. Miserably.

Her guest was Congressman Mo Brooks (R-AL), who made the point that the recession wouldn’t have become a depression without Obama’s policies. Brewer didn’t like that contention, and so she decided to portray the congressman as stupid by asking if he had a degree in economics.

She assumes, of course, he doesn’t. And so she thinks he’ll say “no” and she’ll respond by pointing out that people who do (read: liberal economists) disagree with him. He’d look like an unprepared, uneducated idiot and she’d score the point.

Only problem is…Brooks does have degrees in law, political science, and economics. He is an economist. He does know what he’s talking about.

Does Brewer?

Enjoy her reaction.
