Obama Plans to Inject Even More Politics Into Government Contracts

President Barack Obama intends to issue an executive order forcing contractors to reveal who they support politically before they’re rewarded a government contract. The order would ensure that only contractors with the “proper” political beliefs would receive taxpayer money.

As Jazz Shaw says, it’s an order in the old Chicago tradition. The result will be the awarding of contracts and funneling of money to contractors who provide political and financial support to those in power. If the contractor supports Republicans but Democrats — like, oh, Barack Obama — are in power? Well, that contractor isn’t getting a government contract, is he?

Congressman Todd Rokita (R-IN) has previously commented on the order:

“This Executive Order is a cynical attempt to inject politics into federal government contracting under the guise of transparency and accountability,” said Rep. Rokita. “It will create an ‘enemies list’ that the Administration and their liberal allies will use to punish private citizens and their employers. As a former Indiana Secretary of State who oversaw elections, I find this to be an outrageous overreach by the President. I call on the President to withdraw this Executive Order and inform him that should he decide not to, members of the House are prepared to take legislative action to prevent it from taking effect.”

Why is the administration pursuing such corruption through an executive order rather than pushing a law? Because the United States Supreme Court has already ruled that earlier, similar attempts to stifle speech were unconstitutional.

This is also unconstitutional, but will anyone challenge Obama on it? Will anyone take on such thuggish, corrupt behavior? Will anyone point out how he’s taken Chicago-style corruption and transplanted it to Washington?

We shall see. We’ve seen corruption in Washington before. It’s just never been this brazen.
