Officer Who Threatened Citizen for Carrying Gun is Suspended

by Stephan Tawney on July 21, 2011

The Canton, Ohio, police officer who literally threatened to kill an American citizen for legally carrying a weapon has been suspended pending investigation, Canton Police Chief Dean McKimm has said.

In a statement, McKimm says the officer has been relieved of all duties and the case has been forwarded to Internal Affairs for an investigation.

“The behavior, as demonstrated in this video, is wholly unacceptable and in complete contradiction to the professional standards we demand of our officers,” says McKimm. “Anyone shown to be in violation of our rules and regulations will be help appropriately responsible as dictated by all the facts.”

The officer, who has yet to be identified, stopped the concealed weapon permit holder from identifying his status multiple times. When the officer finally notices the gun, he handcuffs the man and threatens to kill him.

And it got worse.

“As soon as I saw your gun I should have taken two steps back, pulled my Glock 40, and just put 10 bullets in your ass and let you drop,” the officer is heard saying off-camera in video. “And he would have been a nice witness as I executed you because you’re stupid.”

The officer also told the man he would lose his permit, yelled at him repeatedly, threatened to beat in his head, and referred to him using a variety of lovely words.

Is it just me, or should this officer with anger management issues not be carrying a weapon and badge?
