Obama: I’m Tired of Doing My Job

by Stephan Tawney on July 22, 2011

He’s tired of spending day after day in talks with members of Congress. He’s tired of spending so much time in Washington, doing his job. He’s happy to leave the nation’s capital and take a break from, you know, governing.

So here’s a solution, Mr President. Enjoy an early retirement. You’ve got plenty of money now. Your financial filings say you’re worth millions upon millions of dollars. Plus, you’ve already made history. That’s been done.

He can retire now wealthy and having made history.

But he’s not going to do that. He’s going to spend upwards of a billion dollars holding onto his seat of power for another four years. Which seems like odd behavior for a man clearly tired of doing the very same job.

Of course, the part he really hates isn’t the part where he’s the most powerful man in the world, or the part where he gets to pay off old allies with taxpayer money.

No, it’s the fact he’s forced to negotiate with evil Republicans and inexplicably cautious Democrats. That and the fact he has to explain himself to an increasingly-skeptical public. He really hates that.

He and I have something in common now, though. He’s tired of being president and I’m tired of him being president. So we’ve got that to cherish.
