Where were these people before?

by Stephan Tawney on July 25, 2011

Look, I’m always happy to see another previous Barack Obama supporter see the light — whether he’s a middle class voter or prominent businessman. But I always have to wonder: Where were these people in 2008? What were they thinking?

If Barack Obama had run as a conservative Republican and governed as a liberal Democrat, then I could see how people would have been misled. And certainly, Obama lied regarding issues like Gitmo and gay marriage. I’ll concede that.

But his economic policies? The guy talked about redistributing wealth. He was on record supporting a fundamental transformation of America. No one doubted he would push for government-run health care.

And yet these people are shocked his economic policies are disastrous? That he’s effectively a socialist? They’re surprised that he engages in class warfare? They’re flabbergasted that he’s a redistribution’s?

Hello: He ran on this. This was his record. You were warned about this time after time by Republicans. How many times did the “spread the wealth around” clip get played? A half-million?

What, did  you think he was kidding? That the class warfare schtick was just a campaign tactic? It wasn’t. And here was the giveaway: The first few decades of his life were spent waging class warfare and seeking wealth redistribution.

Duh.

Any of this sound familiar? If it does, then how can you be surprised by his actions? If not, why the hell didn’t you do some research on the guy before you voted to make him leader of the free world.

I welcome your getting mugged by reality. But that necessarily implies you were previously living in a fantasy world. Which you were if you thought Barack Obama would be anything other than a wealth-redistributing, welfare program-expanding, class warfare-waging, tax-and-spend liberal.
