Imagine the left’s outrage if a House Republican had been arrested three times thanks to his activities during Tea Party protests. He’d be a lawbreaker who’s perfect for the radical, out-of-touch Tea Party movement. Clearly he would be found incapable of dissenting with civility. A perfect representation of the fringe movement.
But instead it’s he’s a Democrat named Luis Gutierrez (Ill) and he’s been arrested three times in ten years thanks to his activities during pro-amnesty protests. So everything’s cool — admirable even. Heck, his advocacy for the legalization of people who knowingly violated immigration laws basically makes him the next Rosa Parks.
Here’s a wild concept for the 10-term, congressman (not a typo, he’s been there since 1993): How about paying a visit to the White House and Senate Democrats and pushing them for pro-amnesty legislation? Seems like it would be a more effective tactic than getting your ass hauled to jail. But then you couldn’t make a scene, could you?
Gutierrez blames Republicans for blocking pro-amnesty legislation. Which is funny, because Democrats had total or near-total control of both the White House and Congress for two years. Zero pro-amnesty legislation passed. Not a single piece.
The congressman wants President Obama to ignore the Constitution and go around Congress by signing an executive order that would stop the deportation of illegal aliens. It’d be effective amnesty. Because remember: Nothing but nothing matters more than creating a new voting base for Democrats.
