House Republicans: Throw Out the Conservatives!

by Scott Gibbons on July 27, 2011

Boehner-supporting members of the House of Representatives today loudly called for the firing of a Republican Study Committee staffer who dared to dispatch an email disagreeing with the Speaker’s weak debt ceiling plan.

Members chanted “Fire Him! Fire Him!”, referring to RSC executive director Paul Teller. Teller has already been forced to apologize for asking conservative groups to hold the conservative line in the debt ceiling debate.

“It was an unbelievable moment,” said one GOP insider. “I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Speaker Boehner, who has sold-out conservatives before on budget deals, has decided to largely retreat from the debate, allowing Democrats a near-trillion dollar increase in exchange for only minor cuts over ten years.

In fact, an analysis by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) found Boehner was asking for fewer cuts to the budget than far-left Senator Harry Reid (D-NV). Billions of dollars fewer, in fact.

Boehner and his supporters have already decided that no conservative dissent will be tolerated. “Get your asses in line,” he reportedly told House Republicans cautious over the weak deal.
