While we’re trashing Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) for barely holding a coalition together for his plan in the House, let’s remember that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) can’t get his plan through his chamber, either.
In the Senate, Democrats control fifty-three seats. Sixty votes are needed to overcome a filibuster. There has been no indication that Republicans intend to support the bill, and it’s not even clear every Democrat will support it, either.
It turns out that while Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) doesn’t support Boehner’s plan in the House, he doesn’t support Reid’s in the Senate either. So he’s apparently a “no” vote on both.
