Deal’s “Trigger” Would Critically Endanger National Security

Alana Goodman notes that one of the “triggers” — effectively repercussions in case Republicans refuse to pass tax hikes in the near future — in the debt deal is a massive cut to defense spending.

In fact, it’s an additional $750 billion in cuts to defense spending in addition to cuts already passed. It amounts to half of the promised cuts in the future.

Basically,the deal mandates that Republicans agree either to higher taxes or endangering national security. But Social Security and Medicaid? Not reformed even a bit.
