Good News: Mexican Military Helicopter Lands on U.S. Soil

by Stephan Tawney on August 7, 2011

Don’t worry, though. It was totally an accident. Just like the time armed Mexican soldiers crossed onto U.S. soil and had to be stopped by Border Patrol. That was totally a mistake, too. As was the time a Mexican military helicopter violated American airspace, hovering over houses more than a mile into American territory. That was totally a mistake, too. Lots of mistakes.

The Houston Chronicle:

A Mexican military helicopter landed Saturday afternoon at Laredo International Airport by mistake, said a spokeswoman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Mucia Dovalina, the uniform public affairs officer for the Laredo Port of Entry, said the helicopter landed about 3 p.m., but she couldn’t share details such as the number of occupants or whether they were armed.

Dovalina said that, following protocol, CBP officers checked out the helicopter’s occupants, then allowed them to return to Mexico in the aircraft.

“The only thing that I can tell you is that they did land here,” she said. “It was by mistake. They were processed and they were returned to Mexico.”

Really? The Mexican military accidentally flew over the United States-Mexico border and accidentally landed at an American airport? That’s a hell of a mistake. All of these “mistakes” are pretty impressive.

Hovering over American homes more than a mile into American territory? Sending armed soldiers over a well-known border crossing bridge and into American territory? Maybe it’s time to retrain the Mexican military if they so often make such critical mistakes. Other countries would view repeated violations of territory and airspace by a foreign military as casus belli. Mexico is lucky the United States has decided to become an international punching bag.

Too many accidents for my taste. Usually people need a reminder not to make further mistakes, btw reminder is spelled WARNING SHOTS. Right now mexico is forgetting that it is even crossing a border. Reconquista, don’t you know.
