President Downgrade Cancels Public Schedule

Interesting. President Downgrade canceled not only his planned appearance at a moving company today but also the daily White House press briefing.

Instead of traveling to Springfield, Va.-based Interstate Moving Services and making public remarks on fuel efficiency standards for work trucks, Mr. Obama will meet privately with industry officials at the White House this morning — and that meeting will be closed to the press, the White House announced in a scheduling update Tuesday morning.

In addition, a 12:30 briefing with press secretary Jay Carney has been canceled, the update said.

I’d like to believe it has to do with the fact his speech yesterday triggered a 634-point drop on the Dow. He canceled his public appearances today. Now the Dow is up more than 100 points.

Coincidence? Possibly. But investors also don’t like to see a weak, indecisive president. Maybe he can help the situation by keeping his head down and letting people forget he’s the guy in charge.

Update: Someone messages me to say maybe he canceled to go view the returning bodies of the 22 Navy SEALs killed on Saturday. That would explain why he canceled his factory appearance — but doesn’t explain why the White House press briefing, hosted by Jay Carney, was also nixed.
